Florence Moye' Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Born in Mt. Airy, Virginia on April 18, 1920, she moved to New York City where she married Lemuel A. Moye' Jr. in 1952. Florence fought the slow onset of genetic blindness all of her adult life and nonetheless completed her career at AT&T as a telephone operator. After retiring, she devoted her life to her two young children, witnessing and guiding their development from adolescence into manhood. Widowed in 1987, she nevertheless traveled the World, visiting Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, refusing to yield to the travails which accompany growing older. Elevated by her unyielding Christian faith and a love of both music and poetry, she was always quick to laugh, slow to cry, and easily overlooked affronts. Florence was active in multiple churches during her lifetime, and after her move to Houston in 2005 nurtured a sustaining affection for a God who has a deep and abiding love for His children. This was the attitude that she maintained and passed on to her entire extended family and her host of friends. Despite not having completed high school, she imbued her sons with a love for learning and respect for education, and witnessed each earn multiple degrees. Her relentless and loving tutelage created their success. They are Dr. Lem Moye', MD, PhD, Professor of Biostatistics (tenured) at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston and The Honorable Eric V. Moye', JD, Presiding Judge of the 14th District Court of Texas. Preceded into Heaven by her Husband of almost thirty five years, she is survived by her Sons and one Daughter-in-Law, Dixie. Her love was also the fount from which have sprung five Grandchildren, Flora Ardon, Bella (James) Scalise, and Amy (John) Moye'-Owusu, Bradley Nahkunst, and Christopher Nahkunst, and five great grandchildren. All are richer for having had her in their lives, and rather than mourn her Passing, celebrate her life and Legacy.
