Alice Jones Gay

Alice Anne Jones Gay (Nanna) passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with lung cancer on the evening of October 7, 2013. Alice Anne was born in New Iberia, LA on October 6, 1940 to Oliver Hobson Jones, Sr. and Lillian Eva Callahan Jones. Raised in New Orleans, Alice moved to Houston in 1950 and attended Jefferson Davis High School. She attended the University of Houston and worked in the banking industry until her retirement in 2012 from Lander Interests. She had worked for Jack and Trey Lander in many of their businesses endeavors for over 30 years. Her many hobbies over the years have included sewing, needlepoint and cross stitch, reading, puzzles, and card games. Alice will be greatly missed by her family and friends who will forever remember her beautiful smile and joyous laughter. Her strength enduring to the end, she truly was a "steel magnolia". She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Ronald Scott Dahse and her brothers Oliver Hobson Jones, Jr. and Garland Lee Jones. Alice is survived by her daughters, Courtney Gay Paddock and Caroline Gay Carr and their husbands, Robert Lawton Paddock and Mark Christopher Carr. Alice was also blessed with the love of 3 grandchildren: Ella Catherine Carr, Caroline Reese Paddock, Oliver Scott Carr and another Paddock baby due in December of this year. Alice was also survived by her brother William Riley Jones and his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Powell Jones. The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Dr. William William M.D., Michelle Neskey, P.A. and the rest of the team at MD Anderson. Alice also recognizes her friends and caregivers, Paige Prokop, R.N., Wanda Radford and Madia Hammond for their gentle care and kind words. A memorial service is to be conducted at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, October 10th, at St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd in Houston, where Rev. Reagan Cocke is to serve as the celebrant. There will be a reception to follow. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in memory of Alice may be directed to Houston Hospice, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
