Bicenta Herrera Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bicenta "Bessie" M. Herrera Bicenta M. Herrera (82) known to her friends as "Bessie", passed away peacefully in her home on April 10th, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sinton, TX on January 22nd, 1932 and was the second of four children to Panfilo and Andrea Montelongo. Bessie was very hardworking, and left school early to help her family. She married her husband Jose P. Herrera in her parent's home on May 29th, 1954 by the Justice of the Peace, and on March 14th, 1962 by the church, where they exchanged their vows. Later, she moved to Plano, TX with her husband and family. Bessie was a loving wife and caring mother who had a heart of gold. She absolutely loved working in her yard, planting flowers. She had a green thumb, and her gardens showed proof, as they were always the prettiest on the block. In her free time, Bessie enjoyed reading gardening magazines and her bible, playing word find games, and sewing. Her favorite show was the The Three Stooges, which she held very near and dear to her heart. She was a member of the Parish at St. Marks Catholic Church for several years. Bessie is survived by her older brother Leonard Montelongo, daughter, Janie Miller and her husband Robert, Son, Rudy Herrera and his wife Rae, daughter, Gina Scarce and her husband Robert, daughter, Cynthia Herrera, 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved, White Dog. She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jose P. Herrera, younger brother Gilbert Montelongo, baby sister, Paolita Montelongo, Simon and Katherine Herrera, and her long time canine companion, Junior. Services will be held April 19th, 2014 at 1:00pm in the Distinctive Life Funeral Home Chapel. Reception to follow service with a video celebration of life. A private Inurnment will be held at Plano Mutual Cemetery on Friday, April 25th, 2014.
