Ernest N. Oellrich

Ernest Nicholas Oellrich, 71, entered peaceful rest on Saturday, July 18, 2015 after a long illness. Ernest was born on Wednesday, March 29, 1944 in Amityville, NY to William and Anna (Sakaris) Oellrich. He was one of the brightest in his class, loved to play baseball, golf, pool, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Ernest moved to Florida after marrying his late wife Barbara Ann (Andon) Oellrich. He started his own landscaping business. He was an avid golfer and played for the TGA for many years. He remarried the late Esther Scott and took on acting in some of her local theatre productions and volunteered on several sets she helped produce. Ernest was always the life of the party and was always willing to help his friends and family. When Esther became terminally ill with cancer, he moved to Colorado to take care of her and be with his step-daughter, Clare Mercogliano and her family to help support and attend to the needs of the family. He moved to Valdosta, GA in 2003 after her passing. He became a groundskeeper for the Moody AFB Golf Course until he became too ill to work. He moved to Austin, TX in 2013 to be closer to family and enjoyed playing bingo, eating out, and enjoying the view of Lady Bird Lake and Downtown Austin. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Andon) Oellrich, his brother Richard Oellrich, and his parents, William and Anna (Sakaris) Oellrich. He is survived by four loving, caring daughters, Shannon Hardiman (Malcolm) of Austin, TX, Eugenia Magill (Jeff) of Naugatuck, CT, Debbie Oellrich, Jennifer Oellrich Davis (Dave), both of Bradenton, FL, stepdaughter Clare Mercogliano of Highlands Ranch, CO, and his dear son, Ernest Oellrich (Ashley) of St. Petersburg, FL. He leaves behind his beloved brothers and sister, William (Gwen), Tom , George (Sue), Betty (Larry). He also leaves 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Texas Home Health Hospice and New Hope Manor for the compassionate care they provided. Services will be private.
