Evelyn Houk Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Evelyn Mercedes (Larson) Houk went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening January 24, 2015 at the age of 96. Evelyn was proceeded in passing by her husband William (Bill) Houk in 1967, and is survived by her daughters Sandra Jean Dayton and Mary Jo Rex; son-in-law Andrew Carlton Dayton and Larry Michael Rex. Grandchildren; Becky Lloyd (husband Keith Lloyd), Charles Dayton (wife Christine Dayton), Laura Carpenter (husband Darrin Carpenter), and Stacy Womack (husband Arvie Womack). Great Grandchildren Brian Lloyd, Justin Lloyd, Evan Carpenter, Jaden Carpenter, Emily-Grace Carpenter, Ryan Womack, Seth Dayton and Kaylie Dayton. Evelyn was born on February 9, 1918 just outside of Fargo, North Dakota. Evelyn graduated in 1939 with a Bachelors of Science from North Dakota State University with a double major in Education and Nutrition. Evelyn taught Home Economics and General Science in Hatton, ND. Evelyn was accepted to the University of Colorado Medical School in Denver and moved in the summer 1940. While in Medical School in Denver, she met her future husband William (Bill) Houk. Bill and Evelyn were married August 30, 1942 in Vallejo, California. Evelyn moved to Fargo, ND in 1967 following Bill's passing and lived with her mother and sister Naomi. In 1970 Evelyn moved to Phoenix to be near her daughters and worked as a Dietician at St. Joseph's Hospital until she retired in 1977. In 1980, Evelyn moved in with her daughter Mary Jo Rex and son-in-law Larry to Connecticut. In 1982, Evelyn moved with her daughter -and son-in-law to Plano, TX. Evelyn attended First Baptist Church Plano where she was very active in choir and bible study. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting for her entire family, and anyone who asked her to make something. She was generous in with her time and talents wherever they were needed. Evelyn loved playing card games, completing puzzles and being around her friends and family. Evelyn most of all loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and was the ultimate prayer warrior. For someone so small in stature, she was a spiritual giant. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday 1pm January 30, 2015 at First Baptist Plano, in Plano, Texas. Dr. Jerry Carlisle, Senior Pastor will officiate the service, following by a time of social gathering afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to First Baptist Church Plano Senior ministry.
