Lydia Anne Witherspoon

Lydia Anne Witherspoon, age 60, passed away on October 25, 2015 and went to join the heavenly angels after her year-long battle with cancer. She was born in New Iberia, Louisiana to Charles and Lolian Voges on January 17, 1955. Lydia approached her life with incredible passion which was clearly evidenced by her accomplishments in cheerleading and dance during her high school years. While attending Texas Tech University, she met her soulmate, Doak Witherspoon who recently battled and died of cancer on September 1, 2015. Lydia and Doak were married for over 37 years and had a beautiful daughter, Lauren in October of 1983. Lydia was the epitome of southern hospitality, charm, grace and beauty. In addition to being a wonderful, caring and loving mother, she also had exceptional organizational skills and a sharp financial acumen and decided to utilize these skills by entering the workforce and taking on various managerial accounting positions. She also contributed these skills in her volunteer work at the Hebron High School Booster Club and enjoyed cooking and sewing as hobbies. Lydia was honest, patient, generous, kind and hard-working and never gave in to adversity. Once diagnosed with cancer, she took this disease head on and simply never gave up. Her faith in God was strong and her beliefs were unwavering. Her resiliency and attitude while battling her and her husband's cancer reminded us of the famous quote.........."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain." Lydia is survived by her daughter Lauren and her husband Tim, her sister Harriette and her brother Robert. She was preceded in death by her husband Doak, her parents Charles and Lolian Voges and her brother Joseph. A celebration of Lydia's life will be held at Prestonwood Baptist Church located at 6901 W. Park Blvd. Plano, TX 75093 at 3:00 P.M. on October 28, 2015. Flowers are to be delivered to Prestonwood Baptist Church tomorrow Wednesday October 28th.
