Gene M. Ellison

Gene M. Ellison, Sr., born November 29, 1936 passed away on March 10, 2015. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for nearly a year. Born and raised in Marion, Ohio, he graduated from Harding High School in 1956. That same year, he married Janis Creviston, with whom he had five children. He was an expert carpenter and gifted woodworker, skills he learned working alongside his dad and oldest brother. In 1980, he relocated to Houston, Texas, where he worked on and supervised many commercial construction projects. As a youth, he played ice hockey in a local league that held games in the Marion Coliseum. He became an avid, life-long drum and bugle corps fan starting in 1968 when the U.S. Open Championship took place in Marion. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, he supported Marion's own corps, the Cadets as equipment manager and booster club member. Two of his favorite hobbies were operating model trains and building and flying remote-controlled model aircraft. He also enjoyed travelling, especially taking cruises in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. He passed his carpentry skills, work ethic, sense of humor, and, yes, his considerable vocabulary of profanity to his kids. Gene joins in death his mother, Eva, father, Thomas Z., and brothers Jack, Tom, and Don. He is remembered with love by his children and their spouses, Kerry Ellison and Nancy Dute, Gene and Karen Ellison, Mike Ellison, Jamie and Haixia Ellison and their son Simon, and John Ellison as well as stepchildren and grandchildren, Michael, Keith, Mia, and Cain Copeland and Dawn, Kirsten, and Seth Darling. Gene endured his cancer treatments and declining health without complaint and with grace, humility, and humor. He died at home after spending the day with his children, talking, laughing, and sharing stories. A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Gene and Karen Ellison, 4303 Vivian Street, Bellaire, Texas, 77401, on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
