Nancy Shinol Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dear Cottonwood friends, Thought you might like to know that Mom has died. January 7th, 1914 - July 12th, 2015 "Nancy Elizabeth Grimm Shinol, beloved family matriarch, died on July12th 2015 at her Victoria Gardens residence in Allen Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon Ray and Helen Reckers Grimm, her brother S. Ray Grimm, Jr., and her husband of 51 years, Julian W. Shinol. Born January 7, 1914 in Washington, Pennsylvania, she completed her college degree from Slippery Rock State College - Yes, world, there really is a Slippery Rock football team! - at age 19, despite her life-long claim "I am not very smart". Several years later, she began her 30+ year career as a junior and senior high school physical education teacher. She lived her entire life in balance, harmony and joy, taking care of her family, her friends and strangers in need when she met them. She was a beacon of HOPE to all who knew her, a positive influence for all those in her personal world. Her FAITH was all-encompassing: it was evident in her ever-strong commitment to her church and its parishioners; it also manifested often in her daily living, guiding her interactions with people and her response to the events and challenges of her life path. She was LOVE personified, gentle and caring with everyone she walked with on her life journey. And she remembered their names, their faces and the experiences they shared together even 50 years later - because who they were mattered to her. Christ taught of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE - the love that has no opposite. Nancy lived it. Nancy is survived by: her two children, son Jan Shinol and daughter Susan Gallagher; four grandchildren, J Ray, Jr and Kelly Shinol, Sean and Brian Gallagher; and 9 great-grandchildren, Tim, Rachel, Jessie and Julian Shinol and Kate, Jack, Emma, Austin and Addison Gallagher. A graveside memorial service will be held in Orangeburg, South Carolina in August as Nancy is laid to eternal rest beside her husband Julian."
