Tommy Simpson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Tommy Ray Simpson, 54, passed away in his home on July 2, 2015. Tom resided in Houston but, was born in Nacogdoches, TX on July 24, 1960 to Dixie Simpson and John D. Clark. He attended West Orange Stark and graduated in 1978. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science. Tom's early employment included a position at The Capital in Austin, Texas as administrative assistant to Sen. Carl A. Parker of Port Arthur. He later retired as an Eligibility Specialist at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission (Disability Determination Service of Texas). He took pleasure in reading, politics and current events, enjoying coffee at Starbucks with his daughters, watching Sci-fi movies,and taking long walks. He loved music of all kinds. His favorite artists were Jamiroquai, Grace Jones, Michael Jackson, Prince, Sade, Amy Winehouse and more! Tom was also a proud member of the Lambda Center Houston and a community member at The Delta Club Houston. Tom was always hopeful and victorious over life's challenges. He had a passion for life and was full of love. Both graduates of The University Of Texas, Tom married Terri LaChelle Hayes and together they had two children, Sydnee LaChelle and Taylor RaeChelle. Tom's second wife, Patricia Trahan, became a lifelong friend even after their divorce. Tom leaves behind his mother, Dixie; two daughters, Sydnee and Taylor; sisters, Jackie and Denise; his adorable 2 year old grandson, Austin Tyler; his two nieces Madison and Morgan; and a host of other family and friends. His loving grandparents who raised him, WJ and Lorena Simpson, predeceased Tom in death. The "Celebration of Life" Memorial Services will be held at Distinctive Life Cremations and Funerals at 5455 Dashwood in Bellaire, Texas on July 18, 2015 at 3:30 pm. The family has requested that no one wear all black as this is a celebratory event.
