Wilma F Alvey Singleton was born August 29, 1923 in Belton, TX to Frank and Wilta Alvey. She passed away on January 9, 2015 in Plano, TX. She lost her parents at a young age, and was placed at Buckner Baptist Orphan's Home in Dallas, TX at age 6. She graduated salutatorian and received a full college scholarship, but turned it down to stay at Buckner so she could teach and run, as a volunteer, Sunset Home, a school on campus. She married James F Singleton on January 9, 1944 at the age of 21. They attended Rev John Kershaw's church for over 30 years. They taught Sunday School for many years, and were part of the hospitality team. She retired from Texas Instruments in 1987. She is preceded in death by her husband James, two sons Timothy and Thomas, grandson Stephen Singleton, her sister Mamie Porter and her brother L.D. Alvey. Her son James Singleton and his wife Beverly, live in Fort Worth, TX; her son Greg Singleton and his wife Deanna live in Murphy, TX. She has four granddaughters; Jeanne Briggs, Stacy Singleton, Tammy Westbrook and Deana Singleton, one grandson; Jonathan Singleton, and 8 great-grandchildren; Brandon Briggs, Ariella Singleton, Chandler Briggs, Dawson Briggs, Sabrina Westbrook, Julia Westbrook, Pierce Westbrook and Siobhan Westbrook. She also has family members on her sister's side in East Texas. Wilma passed away on what would have been their 71st wedding anniversary. She was always smiling and loving on others. This earned her the Greeter role for new residents at the long-term care facility she resided. She is remembered for her infectious smile, her professionally trained operatic voice and as being a huge fan of the Texas Rangers baseball team. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 18, from 4:00 -- 6:00 p.m. at Distinctive Life Cremations and Funerals, 1611 N. Central Expressway in Plano.
