Walter Schuschereba Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Walter Schuschereba of Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 21, 2014. Walt was born on March 1, 1952 in Bath, NY, the third son of Johanna and Nikoli Schuschereba. He grew up in Avoca, NY, graduated from Avoca Central School in 1971 where he was a champion wrestler. He furthered his education at Brockport University and graduated with a BS in accounting in 1975. In 1977 Walter moved to Houston and worked for Hughes Tool. In October of 2001 Walter began working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice up until the present time where he was a Correction Officer 5 at the Carol Vance Unit. The Texas Livestock and Rodeo Organization was a big part of Walter's life for many years. His passion for working at the rodeos was evident in all our conversations with him over the years. More recently he had become active with the Texas Barbecue Cook-off Association and traveled to many of their competitions. Walter was predeceased by his mother, Johanna and father, Nikoli Schuschereba and older brother, Dr. Stephen T. Schuschereba. He is survived by three brothers, Andrew Schuschereba of Avoca, NY, Michael Schuschereba of Elmira, NY, and George J. Schuschereba of Derry, NH. Also, two sisters in law, Briceida Schuschereba of San Francisco, CA and Bonnie Schuschereba of Derry, NH, and niece, Jodee Brown, of Milton, Ontario, Canada, and nephew, Brett Schuschereba of Derry, NH. A gathering will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Distinctive Life Cremations & Funerals, 5455 Dashwood St., Bellaire, TX 77401.
