Christopher "Chris" Wayne Scalf

Christopher “Chris” Wayne Scalf was born on Tuesday, August 27, 1963, in New Jersey at McGuire AFB as his father was in the Air Force. His parents were William S. and Joan M. (Boockholdt) Scalf. Chris grew up with 2 siblings, an older brother, Michael, and a younger sister, Bethaney. He was a middle child and always reminded his family of that fact by lamenting about the travesties of middle child syndrome. He lived in New Jersey for 10 years before the family moved to Altus AFB in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is where spent most of his childhood into adulthood. This is also where he embraced the cowboy culture and was known affectionately by family and friends as a “Goat Roper”, a slang term for a non-rancher cowboy. Chris graduated from Altus High School in 1982. He played the trumpet in the marching band. He was not a fan of schoolwork or studying but found a love for auto repair and mechanics. He attended college briefly at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, OK. Christopher worked in the banking industry as a mortgage closer. He thrived in the fast-paced environment. He was constantly acknowledged as a top performer and won many accolades and awards. Chris had two children from a prior marriage, Crystal, and Christopher. He loved his kids and was very protective of them. They were his world, and he lived his life for their happiness. His love carried on to his grandchildren. Christopher was a helpful soul and was a huge social butterfly. He was loving, kind and never met a stranger. He was known as one of the biggest Pasta Haters the world has ever known. He was known by most of his friends as Chris but was called by other names from different family members. His siblings called him “Bro” and his mother and sister-in-law called him Chrissy which they were the only ones ever allowed to call him that. His nephews called him “Uncle Bro” and his grandchildren affectionately called him “Gramps”. His great nieces and nephews called him “GUB”, which of course was short for “Great Uncle Bro”. Chris’s favorite holiday was celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and his Irish heritage. He was an avid Sun worshiper, whether laying out at the beach, hanging out at the pool or out in a boat soaking up the rays on the water. While quenching his thirst at the local bar you could find him playing pool or out on the dance floor doing the Texas two-Step. He loved country music and would go to concerts of the top country artists whenever he could. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars and loved going to watch them with family and friends. He was also into classic cars and would go to the classic car meets or shows whenever they came to town. Christopher also loved to travel and was so excited when he was finally able to go on his first cruise ship journey. Chris was not in the military but was a child of a military father. He was also raised Catholic but as he grew older related more to the non-denominational religious services. Chris was preceded in death by his father William Swanson Scalf I. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his two children: daughter Crystal Scalf McAdams and son Chistopher (Saydie) W. Scalf II. His beloved mother Joan Broockholdt, sister Bethaney Scalf and brother Michael (Thuy) A. Scalf. His grandchildren: Garrett McAdams, Conner Hale, Easton and Maddox Monjaraz. His nephews: William (Maggie) S. Scalf, Michael (Tarien) A Scalf II, Paul Nguyen, and Joshua (Patsy) D. Scalf. Great nephews and nieces: Kinsler, Delilah, Ellison, Prudence, Josephine, Asher and Knox. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten!
