Jeanne Marler Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jeanne C. Marler, passed away in Hospice care at Vitas Healthcare* on July 30, 2015 near Houston Texas at the age of 83 surrounded by her family. Jeanne was born on September 28, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Milton & Laverne Johnson. She married and later moved to Houston in 1961 where she raised her 4 children. After spending several years as a single parent she joined in matrimony with Henry Lee Marler on May 29, 1973. He was her loving companion for 18 years until his death in 1991. She was born during the period of the Great Depression and a young teen when World War II finally came to an end. She even saw many hardships in her own personal life. However, she will forever be known as one who survived the hardships with an optimistic spirit and full of faith. Jeanne was an avid reader and loved word search puzzles. This no doubt kept her mind sharp. Although on a fixed income, she was a very generous person and often made contributions to her church and various charitable organizations. In recent years, as her health declined and limited her mobility, she would entertain visiting home care nurses, family and friends with her humor, quick wit and cheery spirit. You would often hear her hum to herself in a "Winnie the Pooh" kind of way. She was kind and would often express her appreciation with a big smile and the words "Thanks-a-million!" She was a loveable woman and will be dearly missed. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Eustice Richard and later Henry Marler; and her sisters Patricia Besch and Barbara Baize. She is survived by her children; Harmon Richard and his life partner Susan Tate, Laura and her husband John Spurlock, Geneva and her husband Oscar Chapman, Barbara Walters; her siblings; Gloria Philips and Tommy Johnson; as well as 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many more dear family members and friends. A graveside service will be held at National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 10:00 AM.
