Kathryn Myers Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Kathryn Myers was born to Delma and Kathryn Shelburne on May 21, 1941 in Hamlin, Texas. Kathryn was the oldest of three children, Thomas Eugene and Joan. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Joan in 1973. Kathryn passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 26, 2014, after a lengthy struggle with Multiple Myeloma. Kathryn attended Baylor University, graduating with a degree in Education in 1963. From there she moved to Dallas where she began a career in teaching in Garland as an elementary teacher. While in Dallas, she met her husband Jim and was married to him in 1967. She continued her career as an elementary teacher until her first child, Shannon Elizabeth was born in 1970. Thereafter, she devoted her caring talents to being a caring, teaching mother to continuing with her second daughter, Wendy Kathryn, born in 1973. Kathryn devoted her talents to supporting her husband in his career and managing their family from their home in Richardson, Texas. In 1976 she moved with her family to the middle east for a three year tour where she assured her family and children maintained their American, family and Christian beliefs and culture. She returned with the family to their home in Richardson in 1979 and renewed her focus on the traditions of their family. She was dedicated to her church family and worked at all levels of their education programs as her children grew. In 1993, she supported her family's outreach commitment as they acquired a second residence in South Africa. She assisted initial development of a program to assist a disadvantage South African school in the rural areas of the country that had a student body in grades 1 through 7, of 100 rural students and two teachers. She continued to support this work as their church family at First United Methodist Church of Richardson accepted the challenge of leading this effort to provide quality education to disadvantaged children. The school enrollment is expected to increase to 150 this year. Kathryn's passion was gardening and creating beautiful flower arrangements for all occasions. Her friends will always remember her as a giving and sharing person. Kathryn is survived by her husband Jim, daughters Shannon Elizabeth Ambrozy and her husband Stephen, Wendy Kathryn Barnett and her husband Chris, grandchildren Robert Richard Shelton, III, Sophia Kathryn Shelton and brother, Thomas Eugene Shelburne of Baton Rouge and his wife Sara. Kathryn has many cousins, aunts, and uncles with whom she maintained close relationships who will miss her greatly. Jim's mother, who celebrated her 99th birthday on January 8, mourns the loss of a daughter-in-law that had developed a lasting bond between generations. Kathryn was loved by all who knew her as a person who always placed others before herself. She was greatly loved by all and her bright smile and outgoing personality will be missed. She will only brighten the heavens as she moves from her life with us to her presence with our Father and his son, Jesus Christ. Kathryn will be inurned at the columbarium at First United Methodist Church of Richardson in a family service. A memorial service will be held at the church at 501 N. Central Expressway, Richardson on Friday, January 31 at 3 PM.
