Mary Nelson

Mary Glenn (Troxell) Nelson passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Houston, Texas. She was born October 11, 1937, in Muncie, Indiana and attended Muncie public schools. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1955 and was very active in class reunion activities. After graduation, she married Claude William “Bill” Nelson and worked at the telephone company and Beebe Title Company before starting her family. She then stayed home with their 3 daughters until returning to work for State Farm Insurance when they were all in school. She worked for several State Farm agents in Muncie. She and Bill moved to Springport in 1992 and enjoyed caring for their property there until Bill’s untimely illness and death in 1997. She later married Robert “Bob” Nelson, and they decided to move to Pennsylvania to be closer to her daughters. She enjoyed the many friends she made in her Willow Green community and at First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem. Since October 2021, she has lived in Houston, Texas with her significant other, Jerry Hill, who survives. They are members of the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston. She was the best mother, grandma and grandma great, and especially liked her grandpuppies and all the neighborhood dogs. She was known for her green thumb and her love of flowers and birds. Mary is predeceased by her husbands, her father John F. Brown, and her mother and stepfather, Mary Emma and Charles O. Troxell. Mary is survived by her 3 daughters and their husbands, Claudia (Clayton) Bonnell, Carolyn (Jim) Koontz, and Cathy (Michael) Rawlings, her 4 grandchildren, Nicolas (Katie) Koontz, Austin Koontz (partner Emily Lawrence), Nathaniel Rawlings and Emma (Jesse) Durham, her great grandson, Henry Koontz, her great granddaughter, Chella Jo Durham, her siblings, Paul Troxell, Joyce Swing and John R. Brown, and several nieces (especially Debbie Riggs and Diana June), nephews, and cousins (especially Desnee Hall and Dan Dick). A memorial service will be held in Houston soon with private interment at Elm Ridge Cemetery to follow.
