Sylvia O. Ebuh

Sylvia Onyeoghani Ebuh was born on February 4th, 1978, in Lagos, Nigeria, to her loving parents, Vincent Osayande Ebuh and Eunice Onyeoghani Ebuh. Sylvia fell asleep in death on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in Houston, Texas, USA, bringing an unexpected and heartbreaking close to a life filled with joy, dedicated, and deep affection for Jehovah, her family, and her many friends. Affectionately known by those closest to her as “The Dancing Queen,” “the girl with the golden eye,” and “Princess,” Sylvia radiated a brilliance that could not be contained. Her presence lit up every room, and her vibrant spirit uplifted both strangers and loved ones alike. But beyond the outward sparkle, she was principled. She maintained her integrity and loyalty until her final breath, remaining firm in her devotion to Jehovah and steadfast in the hope that shaped her life. Sylvia’s spiritual identity formed the core of who she was. She dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized her dedication through baptism on October 9, 1993, at the young age of fifteen. From that point onward, her love for Jehovah was reflected in her relationships, priorities, and worldview. Sylvia loved the ministry, not as a perfunctory task, but as a joyful expression of her faith. She was active, consistent, and earnest in speaking about her beliefs. Serving as an Auxiliary Pioneer month after month, she spent countless early-morning hours speaking to others about Jehovah God and the marvelous promises found in His Word the bible. She believed deeply in the Bible’s message of hope, and she was determined to share that hope with anyone willing to listen. She also regularly participated in public cart witnessing, standing alongside fellow believers in various locations where she could offer comfort, encouragement, and spiritual refreshment to her neighbors. Her warmth made her approachable; her sincerity made her memorable. Her most cherished assignment, however, was the care of her children. Sylvia dedicated her heart to raising her children Jayden and Renee “in the way they should go” (Proverbs 22:6), training them to love Jehovah and live productive spiritual lives. Up until the final moments of her life, she stood steadfast in the face of a faith challenging medical situation. Sylvia’s secular educational journey began at Tade Elementary Nursery School in Apapa and onwards to Corona Primary School in Apapa, Lagos. Schooling environments that nurtured her early intellectual curiosity, confidence, and creativity. She continued her secondary school education at Holy Child College in Ikoyi, where she formed lifelong friendships. She later attended ADRAO International School in Victoria Island, Lagos, where her global awareness and academic growth continued to blossom. Sylvia began her university education at University of Benin in Edo State, Nigeria and finished her coursework at the University of South Carolina, where she graduated with dual bachelor’s degrees in finance and business administration. Sylvia was married to Osaretin Ekhator. The wedlock produced the two great loves of her life: her children, Jayden and Renee. Sylvia often spoke of her children as her greatest joy. Professionally, Sylvia was known for her diligence and business acumen. She was the founder and President of Helium Research Group, a company that benefitted from her sharp insight, strong instincts, and enterprising spirit. She had a natural talent for building relationships, identifying opportunities, and navigating complex challenges. Whether engaging with clients, colleagues, or collaborators, Sylvia’s communication style, equal parts thoughtful, attentive, and inspired, left a lasting impression. Sylvia is fondly described as ‘Kindness wrapped in penetrable chaos,’ a testament to her vibrant spirit and generous heart. She loved with passion, and she hated injustice and oppression with equal intensity. Yet despite her strong convictions, she did not hold on to malice; she moved forward with grace. Sylvia possessed an unmistakable magnetic personality. Sociable by nature, she thrived in community settings and was, without effort, often the life of the gathering. Her laughter was warm; her presence was comforting; her energy was infectious. Music and dance were among her purest joys. Her favorite childhood song, “Brown Girl in the Ring” by Boney M, symbolized her youthful joy, and exuberance. As a child, she could dance endlessly to its melody, twirling with delight, fully immersed in the happiness it brought her. That joy never left her; it matured but never faded. Beneath her vibrant exterior was a gentle, listening heart that was humble, sincere, and compassionate. Sylvia was a bridge builder; she was remarkably gifted at maintaining multiple meaningful relationships. She gave patient attention to the needs of others, often spending hours listening to her friends’ challenges, sharing her own experiences, offering counsel, and exchanging thoughts. She had a rare ability to put others at ease, helping them feel understood, valued, and completely comfortable in their own skin. She carried this gift gracefully into every aspect of her life. Sylvia leaves behind a legacy defined by faith, love, joy, and connection. She touched many lives with her warmth, joie de vivre, her courage, her sincerity, and her ability to uplift others even while facing her own struggles. Sylvia is survived by her children: Jayden Ekhator and Renee Ekhator; her parents: Vincent Osayande Ebuh and Eunice Onyeoghani Ebuh; siblings: Joanna Iroro Faluyi, George Osayande Ebuh, Vincent Ofuru Ebuh & Joel Onyero Ebuh; brother-in-law: Seun Faluyi; sisters-in-law: Jennifer Ebuh, Debbie Ebuh & Mary Ebuh; and her large extended family, including a host of loving uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins (of all types), and in-laws. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 8885 Benning Dr, Houston TX 77031. A private burial will be held at Glenwood Cemetery. While the resurrection hope does not completely take away the sting of death now, it is such a comfort to know, that the next voice Sylvia hears, will not be ours, but the voice of Jesus, as he gently awakens her from sleep. (John 5:28,29) This hope assures us that Sylvia is not gone forever, that she rests safely in Jehovah’s memory, awaiting the day when she will awaken to a life free of pain, sadness, and death. When she would live again, young, healthy, full of life and laughter – an everlasting dance of gratitude. Your meals, your assistance, your stories, and your comfort. May Jehovah, the God of all tender mercies, continue to sustain and bless each one of you for your kindness.
