Trévis G. Harper

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice! Again, I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus - Phi 4:4-7 NKJV

The influence of an educator will extend years beyond a classroom even in death. That is indeed the legacy and memory of Trévis G. Harper. She has left a legacy for all that encountered her deeply that includes love, sacrifice and pride, strength, endurance, surrender and FAITH....

On October 10, 2020, Trévis was called home. She was born, July 11, 1943 to Walter Leroy Gooding and Evelyn Whitfield Gooding. Trévis was raised in Benton, Arkansas was a first-generation college graduate. A 1965 Alum of the University of Pine Bluff (HBCU), Trévis majored in Education. She later earned her Master of Education from St. Thomas University, and a Mid Management Certification from Prairie View A&M University, as well as hours towards her Ph.D at Sam Houston State University. She married just after college and with her first husband Mervin were blessed with their only child Alicia. Though the marriage did not endure, their mutual respect and care for one another lived on through their children and considered each other "old friends" until she departed this earth. She was gifted with another chance to love an amazing man until death, who would expand her universe and take her on the adventures of her lifetime. She was most proud of the way that they both embraced and blended their families into a family force to be reckoned with. Their children consider themselves siblings of the heart and have committed to be so for the rest of their lives.

During her more than 40 years in education, Trévis enlightened and expanded the minds of all those that came into her reach from the classrooms of Kansas City, Missouri to Minneapolis, Minnesota ending in Missouri City, Texas. There she spent many years with the Fort Bend Independent School District, serving as a 7th Grade Science Teacher at Missouri City Junior High, advancing to Assistant Principal at Williowridge High School and Hunters Glen Elementary (Fort Bend ISD).
Upon retiring from the traditional classroom, Trévis shared her enthusiasm of teaching through Christian Education. She was a dedicated member of Kingsland Baptist Church, Katy, TX.

One of her most memorable moments included being named Teacher of the Year in 1989 and Winner of the 1989 GTE Gift (Growth Initiative for Educators). It gave her overwhelming joy bearing witness to the educational pursuits and accomplishments of both her daughter and granddaughters.

Trévis was proceeded in death by her parents and three brothers, Samuel Lee, Lawerence, Walter Leo, and son Bryan. She is survived by her sisters Lois husband Linus, Arthur Bea husband Hilly, and brother's Raymond wife Brenda, Fred wife Gloria, her devoted husband Dwayne, her five children, Alicia husband Winston, Stephanie husband Bobby, Aubrey wife Ann, Vickey husband Gil. Her amazing grandchildren: Paige, Brittany, Tanya husband Christian, Brianna, Antonio wife Romeisha, Dana, Blue, Amber husband Todd, Chad wife Kristin, Sean wife Suzanne, Haylee husband Jason, Jesse husband Garrett, Lauren husband Carlton, and Audrey husband Jarrod. She had 27 great grandchildren from her beautifully blended families. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, students, friends and families that she loved dearly.

The entire family would like to express their heart felt thanks for prayers, calls, texts, food and your generous donations to the Trévis G. Harper "No Limits" Educational Scholarship Fund.
