Gary Petri Moritz, 73, passed away on October 11, 2018, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born February 18, 1945, in Houston, Texas, to Burt Sr. and Dr. Aileen Petri. Gary grew up in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Schreiner High School in Kerrville, Texas in 1963.
He attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Gary began his engineering career working for Dow Badische in 1969. After receiving his professional engineering license, he worked with several engineering consulting firms. Gary traveled to many countries including New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico, Italy, and France during his 42-year engineering career before retiring from Bechtel in 2011. He happily moved to his Boat Ranch outside of Seadrift, Texas.
Gary married Julie in 1968 in Houston, Texas. They were happily married for 50 years. Gary was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and opening his home up to others who enjoyed the outdoors. When he was not out on the water, Gary could be found riding his tractor or working on projects in his garage.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Burt Edwin Moritz Sr. and Dr. Aileen Petri. He is survived by his wife Julie of Seadrift, Texas; his daughters Melissa (Kevin) Lowery of Angleton, Texas, Jennifer Moritz of Lubbock, Texas, and his son John (Amy) Moritz of Katy, Texas; his brother Burt Jr. (Agnes) Moritz of Lake Jackson, Texas; his grandchildren Heather Lowery, Brittany Lowery, Elizabeth Lowery, Aubrey Moritz, Riley Moritz, and Emma Moritz; his great-grandchild Hannah Rudkin; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas, at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2018.
