Wanda Jeanne Earnest Shadle April 26, 1932 - September 23, 2019

Send Flowers

Wanda Jeanne Earnest Shadle was born in Canyon, TX on April 26,1932 to Wiley and Bessie Lee Earnest.  Mr Earnest was a Minister of Music and moved the family to the Beaumont, TX area when Wanda was still young.  Her mom played organ and piano so Wanda came by her musical ability naturally.  Wanda played the trombone and was a twirler for French High School in Beaumont.  She attended Lamar College for a while before deciding to pursue being a nurse and moved to Houston and went to Lillie Jolly School of Nursing.  While there she was sang in a nurses trio and they all started attending First Baptist Church, Houston and sang in the choir there.  On her first day at choir rehearsal, Wanda spotted Ralph Shadle across the choir loft and decided then that was the man she was going to marry.  Wanda played piano for the Wednesday night services for many years at FBC Downtown.  She also played the organ when needed.  She played for quite a few weddings and funerals too and even taught piano lessons in her home for a while.   Wanda continued to sing in the choir at HFBC and was in every Christmas presentation for over 30 years in a row until she got ill a couple of years ago.

Wanda started her nursing career at Jeff Davis Hospital but went back and worked on getting her Bachelor of Science at HBU and then finished at TWU in Houston.  She helped open Memorial NW Hospital (now Greater Heights) and was over the Pediatric floor at the time.  Wanda worked at several other hospitals and with Visiting Nurses but finally found the place she really loved as head of the clinic at DePelchin Children’s Center.  She retired from there after 13 years of service and loving on children.  Wanda also served as “camp nurse” and worked with the youth for many years HFBC.
Wanda was an active member of the Victory Cornerstone LBS Class. One of Wanda’s greatest gifts though was to send cards to those friends and family that she loved so dearly.  It was a true ministry.  Wanda was privileged to begin IWA (Inspirational Writers Alive) at HFBC.  She loved writing devotionals and was a published writer.  She loved encouraging others to follow their dreams to write.
Wanda is preceded in death but her parents and her husband, Ralph Shadle.  She is survived by her children, Jeanne Shadle and Beverly Shadle-Kealey and her sisters, Linda Toone and Shirley Wheeler.  She has many beloved nieces and nephews and their precious families.  The main thing she would want everybody to know though is that she loved Jesus.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 10:00 AM until Service time at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024.
